Here are some internet business scams that you need to be aware of, and more importantly how they work!

Online Survey Scam

Now it is true to say that companies need data to improve their performance in the market place and a vast majority of large corporate companies use online data collection from surveys. However the scammers have also cottoned on to this and will send emails to individuals like you and me telling us that we can earn more money than we ever have before simply by filling out questionnaires online. The idea behind this is that we pay the scammer a one off “low” payment, say $49.99 and they will send us back the information on how to earn all this money by doing just a few hours work a week.

In reality legitimate online surveys are quite lengthy and the money you can earn from them is minimal. An example of this is that in 2008 an undercover reporter (who was no slouch when it came to typing) enrolled in an online survey program. They worked for 9 hours a day for 7 days and earned the equivalent of just over $22.00 that is just 0.35 cents per hour. So in reality the only person making any money is the scammer.

Internet Business Scams

Making money internet scams using legitimate business models are also big business. How many of you have come across adverts like “earn up to $1000 a day with only a few hours work with your own home based internet business” They promise to let you into the secret formula that they have used to earn millions online for a one of payment of $995.00. Sounds too good to be true right! Well in reality the vast majority of people who buy these programs never make a dime. Why! Because there are probably hundreds if not thousands of people who have also bought into the program, therefore the competition is fierce. By this point the secret formulae that will make you a millionaire by the end of the year, has been done to death! You see the guru makes his money by selling the rights to this “secret formulae” and not the formulae itself.

The main thing to look out for is that an internet based business is like any other offline business in that it takes work and dedication to earn a full time living. Anyone who tells you that you can earn big bucks by doing next to nothing is not out to do you any favours.

Typing Work From Home

These types of money making internet scams work by sending you an email or placing an advert on the internet telling you that you can make a really good living typing or copying documents. Naturally you have to send the scammer a disclosed fee and in return they will send you a disk and printed info detailing you to place ads or send emails similar to the one you stumbled across. When an unsuspecting person answers your ad and hands some money over, you sell them the disk asking them to place more ads etc, hence turning you from the scammed into the scammer

The best advice would be to steer well clear of anything that involves typing from home that doesn’t have a legitimate business ethic to it.

Chain letter emails

This is probably the oldest and most basic of the money making internet scams and evolves from the original chain letters. Emails are sent to you requiring you to send some money to the top names on the list. Your name is then added to the bottom of the list and when your name moves up the chain and gets to the top you supposedly receive a windfall payment.

In reality this is a pure pyramid scheme and inevitably the pyramid will collapse long before you ever see a dime of your money.

Hopefully I have tried to high-light some money making internet scams and what to look out for. Having said all this, there are however legitimate internet businesses out there that are not scams and that have a proven track record so in order to sort out the good from the bad, my advice would be to do your homework before you part with a cent of your hard earned cash. Check out forums and reviews, hear what other people are saying and check out testimonials. It is possible to make good money online and however if anything sounds too good to be true, it invariably always is!
